Make new friends and reconnect with your neighbors by joining Lakewood's Neighborhood Watch program. Block Captains and their neighbors are supported in their crime prevention efforts by Lakewood's Public Safety Department and members of Lakewood's Special Assignment Officer (SAO) team. If you and your neighbors are interested, all you have to do is make the call! This free event is a chance for families and community members to meet first responders who serve their community and learn about the latest in emergency preparedness. County Sheriff's Department and L.A. County Fire Department, including specially trained animals, such as search-and-rescue dogs and mounted posse horses. ▪ An up-close look at the Sheriff’s Department and Fire Depart- ment specialized vehicles, and a chance to meet the pilot and see the Robinson-44 Sky Knight helicopter, Lakewood’s “eye in the sky.” ▪ A display of emergency service vehicles, including sheriff patrol vehicles and fire trucks that you can explore. ▪ Booths offering tips to prepare your homes and pets for an emergency. ▪ Crime prevention strategies for home and auto security. In 2020, Lakewood voters approved Measure L to provide locally controlled funding to safeguard Lakewood’s financial future; for improvements to public safety; and for repairs and upgrades to city parks, community buildings and other aging infrastructure. City staff have also worked hard to secure county, state and federal grant funds to further improve Lakewood parks and community centers. Thanks to grant funds secured for new projects from Los Angeles County Measure A and the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District, and California State Proposition 68. Additionally, your federal and state legislative offices have earmarked tax-payer funds to return to their local districts—California State Assembly Member Anthony Rendon, United States Representative Robert Garcia and United States Representative Nanette Barragan have each earmarked money for Lakewood. Completed Projects • New Tot Lot playground and two new picnic shelters at San Martin Park • Two renovated restrooms (1-ADA Accessible) at Rynerson Park • Disabled parking curb cutouts at Biscailuz, Del Valle & San Martin parks • Two new picnic shelters at Rynerson Park • Lighting, electrical and carpet upgrades to the Weingart Ballroom at The Centre • Upgrades to game courts at Palms Park, including new basketball standards, upgraded LED lighting and new court surfacing • New Tot Lot playground at Biscailuz Park, and new combination Tot Lot and School Age playgrounds at Boyar Park • Repainting and corrosion treatment on the bleachers at Lisa Fernandez Field at Mayfair Park Projects on the Horizon • New Tot Lot and School Age combination Tot Lot and School Age Playground at Cherry Cove Park • New School Age Playground at Bloomfield Park • Roofing, plumbing and HVAC upgrades at several Lakewood facilities, including Monte Verde Park and The Centre • Electrical upgrades at Biscailuz, Bloomfield and San Martin parks, the Burns Community Center and The Centre • Remodel and modernization of Weingart Senior Center • Major upgrade to Palms Park community building The Lakewood City Council and city staff remain committed to ensuring Measure L and as such, the Measure L Citizens Oversight Committee has been appointed to guarantee responsible stewardship of these public funds. Likewise, funds from the county, state and federal government are monitored and spent only on those projects for which they have been approved. Lakewood remains fiscally responsible with all funding sources and ensures our residents benefit directly from these granted funds.
